Introduction

There are three ADAM™ modules intended for general analog inputs.  All three support both voltage and current inputs, and all provide 3000VDC isolation.

  • ADAM 4012 has one differential input with 2 megohms impedance.
  • ADAM 4017 has six differential and two single-ended inputs with 20 megohms impedance.
  • ADAM 4017P adds Modbus compliance to ADAM 4017.

ADAM modules use a single twisted pair of wires to transmit and receive data. All module commands are issued in printable ASCII characters. You can easily panel-mount, DIN-rail-mount, or piggyback-mount modules. Removable screw terminal connectors make wiring and field maintenance easy.

Modules accept any unregulated power source between 10 and 30 VDC. A watchdog timer supervisory function automatically resets the modules in the event of system failure.

Our CyMOD series of modules has been designed with state-of-the art surface-mount technology to be completely hardware and software compatible with the ADAM series, at a somewhat lower cost.  CM 4011, CM 4011D, and CM 4018 are thermocouple modules that parallel the similarly numbered ADAM modules.

Built-in alarm functions can be used to control a process using the built-in digital I/O lines, independent of the host PC.

Microprocessor has six basic functions:

  • Communication software and command set
  • Calibration software
  • Alarm monitoring
  • Event counting
  • Management of the EEPROM device that holds the system parameters
  • Data transformation

Current input requires a 125-ohm resistor.

Depending on the module’s configuration setting, it can forward the data to the host computer in one of the following formats:

  • engineering units (mV, V, or mA)
  • percent of full-scale range (FSR)
  • twos complement hexadecimal

Output/Relay Details

When activated, the on-board alarm function is tied to the two digital outputs:

Digital output 0 is tied to the Low alarm state, turning ON if the Low alarm limit is reached (can be momentary, until the A/D input returns within allowed range, or latching where it stays on continuously until the Clear Alarm command is received or the High alarm limit is reached.

Digital output 1 is tied to the High alarm state, turning ON if the High alarm limit is reached (can be momentary, until the A/D input returns within allowed range, or latching where it stays on continuously until the Clear Alarm command is received or the Low alarm limit is reached.

This arrangement of coupling High and Low alarm states with the digital output lines may be utilized to build ON/OFF controllers that can operate without host computer involvement.
